Tasha

Hey, I' m Tasha, the owner, co-founder and lead sign language interpreter here at Rose & Roots. I' ve been drawn to ASL and the Deaf community for as long as I can remember. Even as a kid, I knew I wanted to learn the language. Somehow, it kept showing up in my life until it became the path I followed.

I earned my degree from Augustana University and completed a 435-hour internship in New Orleans, where I got hands-on experience interpreting in 12-step programs, medical settings, schools, and local community spaces. That time deeply shaped the way I approach access and connection through language.

I'm a big believer in learning from people — their cultures, beliefs, and lived experiences. I' m also trained in emergency response, passionate about serving unhoused folks, and committed to making interpreting more inclusive and human-centered.

When I' m not working, I' m usually outdoors — fishing, kayaking, or road-tripping across the U.S. with my amazing wife and our three pets. I love exploring new places and finding the little moments that remind me why I do this work.

At the heart of it all, I care about people, language, and creating space where everyone feels seen and heard.

"Connection is everything. At the core of interpreting is connection—real, human connection. It' s about more than words, but holding space for what' s meant, felt, and needed. It's about the lives, stories and communities of the people we interpret for."

Shantell

Hi, I am Shantell, the co-founder and operations manager here at Rose & Roots. I'm a public health professional deeply rooted in service, science, and social justice. With a background in environmental health, epidemiology, and health communication, my mission is to bridge gaps—whether in communities, language, or access.

My work is guided by a strong passion for equity and a commitment to making health information accessible to all. I advocate fiercely for minority and disability justice, recognizing that visibility and voice are crucial in creating lasting change.

Outside of public health, I find joy in the outdoors (sports, birdwatching and cycling). Comfort in reading dystopian fiction, wildlife photography and Film/media studies. Whether through community service, advocacy, or storytelling, I’m here to champion healthier, more inclusive communities for everyone.

"If it's not accessible, it's not equitable. At Rose & Roots, inclusion isn't a buzzword—it' s a practice, and it starts with communication."
